Summary
see also Alzheimer's disease,
mental acuity
Dementia is not a disease but rather the description of a
group of symptoms that are common to a number of diseases.
The symptoms include loss of memory, language skills,
judgment, social skills and other functions of the brain to
the point that the loss interferes with a person’s normal
functioning. A person may exhibit changes in mood and
social behavior with dementia. Loss of memory alone is
not regarded as dementia but rather when there is a loss of
at least two of the major brain functions.
Dementia symptoms are unusual below age 60 and the risk
increases with advanced age. Alzheimer’s disease
accounts for 50 to 60 percent of dementia cases. Other
diseases are Lewy body disease, vascular dementia (many
small strokes), and the medical conditions such as
Huntington’s disease, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s
disease, and Pick’s disease can lead to dementia.
Nutritional deficiencies, chronic use of alcohol, infections
of the brain, and tumors can all lead to symptoms of
dementia.

Experiences and Testimonials of others
Maree - Does anyone
have any experience or testimonies about dementia? It has
affected a 79 year old friend of my family?
Julie Ann - I have been working with an
elderly lady who has Alzheimer’s and have had astounding
results with the ATT. I give her one a week an have
been for a year now, and her husband has informed me of the
progress through last year. After 1 treatment her
depression and despondency totally eased off, after 4 1/2
months she was talking about getting her drivers license
back and wanting to go back to work....both of these things
she was really not able to do....but I guess the thought
counts as progress is made...she has not been sick even one
time this last year (I started the ATT's on her last Jan
4th), and her husband is convinced that she is in the peak
of health for her condition and not in a nursing home
because of the essential oil treatments. I follow the
lavender with frankincense and copy the exact techniques
with it that you use applying the lavender, and this is my
standard on every technique done on her every week.
Then during the year I have added rosemary after the
melaleuca and sometimes I used patchouli or clary sage just
to boost her along...but these three I have only used
occasionally. I always ask her husband how she is
doing and use the different oils as to my intuition. In my
personal opinion, the whole axis of my business and life
with doTERRA revolves around the ATT. Simply nothing
can take its place and to get everyone hooked into it's
healing and restorative power will totally change your life
and business and the lives of everyone you come into contact
with. Hope this is a help to you. Happy
New Year! Julie Ann in SC
Jan - I'm no expert in this, but my
reading showed that most important of all is taking the Life
Long Vitality Pack, mostly because of the xEO Mega. It helps
proper brain function. Frankincense is always the first oil
I would reach for, for any kind of brain disorder.
Brooke - Melissa was mentioned at
convention for use with dementia.
Pat - I have had a number of people who
have used patchoulli and frankincense for the dementia. The
frankincense under the tongue and the patchouli on the
bottom of the feet.
Lacey - Are there
oils that help with dementia? Which ones, how would you
administer them
Pat - I would suggest frankincense and
bergamot, placed on the crown of the head and the bottom of
the feet. I would also use Balance as a good grounding
blend.
Brooke - Dr. Hill also mentioned melissa
at convention as one that would be good for dementia.
Probably in capsule form - or on the crown of the head or
bottom of feet.
Janyce - My Mom has advanced
Alzheimer’s. In the past ... say 6 months she has not
recognized my brother, she wants to always have her eyes
closed, has to be prompted to eat, is very weak in the legs
and is tipsy and has to be held. About 5 weeks ago, after
her doctor reviewed the literature for the LLV, we started
her on 1/2 dose per day on a Monday. On Friday the
activities director said, you know, she has been doing
really good the last 2 or 3 days, coming out of her room,
walking around, etc.
Two weeks ago we took her out for breakfast. She
recognized my brother and said, Oh, I haven't seen you in so
long! I asked her how she was. She sat up in the chair and
said, GOOD. I said, you are? She said, YES. VERY GOOD.
She was smiling and happy. She ate without prompting, she
never closed her eyes the whole time.
Last Sunday we took her out for dinner. She greeted my
brother with excitement and recognized him right away. She
said she was GOOD! Nodding her head up and down. She was
smiling and SO happy to be with us. She ate without
prompting, she never closed her eyes, she read her name off
a piece of paper, and her legs were stronger and she was
walking without aid.
This is a result of the Lifelong Vitality Pack - 1/2 dose
daily! Are there any questions as to the power of these
amazing vitamins?! (My brother said, I know I can't afford
to buy those vitamins right now, but I really want them! So
I gave him a set. We can't wait to see how she is in
another month!
Gale - I know a
young many that has many issues and is on the following
drugs:
1) a statin for cholesterol (although he doesn't have
cholesterol issues. He has a liver functioning at about 60%.
2) he is on cymbalta for pain and depression
3) he is on tizanidine for muscle spasms and nerve damage
4) he is on lyricia for nerve pain
5) he is on malamicital for bi-polar and depression
6) he is on fluticasone which is a nasal spray for
depression.
7) he has severe anger issues that he's been having to deal
with for many years. He doesn't know where that comes from.
Thanks in advance for all your input. I value all the
knowledge you all share with me.
Laura – I heard Dr. Hill say that
melissa works on "depression, anxiety, expressions of anger,
dementia, Alzheimer's, and cognitive impairment." He
said you can apply it "topically for emotional stability and
anger reduction." He also said that you can use
melissa and frankincense for depression and melissa and
patchouli for cognitive impairment. As far as
Patchouli goes, he said that it is protective of the central
nervous system and, as he said, the tissues of the central
nervous system are the most sensitive in the body, so this
is a pretty wonderful thing. He said you can use
patchouli at the base of the skull and bottom of the feet,
roof of the mouth, and under the tongue. He said you
can use it really effectively with Balance, frankincense and
vetiver. What I'm saying is that I think that
melissa would help with the depression and anger and
emotional issues and patchouli would help with the nerve
issues. (ed comment: non dementia related comments removed

What Science & Research are saying
Melissa in the treatment of
patients with mild to moderate Alzheimer's

Melissa officinalis extract in the treatment of patients
with mild to moderate Alzheimer's disease: a double blind,
randomised, placebo controlled trial.
Abstract
Objective: To assess the efficacy and safety of Melissa
officinalis extract using a fixed dose (60 drops/day) in
patients with mild to moderate Alzheimer's disease.
Design: A four month, parallel group, placebo controlled
trial undertaken in three centres in Tehran, Iran. Methods:
Patients with mild to moderate Alzheimer's disease aged
between 65 and 80 years (n = 42; 18 women, 24 men) with a
score of ≥ 12 on the cognitive subscale of Alzheimer's
disease assessment scale (ADAS-cog) and ≤ 2 on the clinical
dementia rating (CDR) were randomised to placebo or fixed
dose of Melissa officinalis extract. The main efficacy
measures were the change in the ADAS-cog and CDR-SB scores
compared with baseline. Side effects were systematically
recorded. Results: At four months, Melissa officinalis
extract produced a significantly better outcome on cognitive
function than placebo (ADAS-cog: df = 1, F = 6.93, p = 0.01;
CDR: df = 1, F = 16.87, p < 0.0001). There were no
significant differences in the two groups in terms of
observed side effects except agitation, which was more
common in the placebo group (p = 0.03).
Conclusions: Melissa officinalis extract is of value in
the management of mild to moderate Alzheimer's disease and
has a positive effect on agitation in such patients.
