Pain is the body’s way to alert us of a potentially
damaging situation. In the skin, muscles, and other
organs of the body there are nociceptors or sensory neurons
that translate physical stimuli into signals that are sent
to the brain through the nervous system. As these
signals reach a certain threshold we interpret the stimulus
as pain. This could be the pinch of the skin, the
scrape from a fall, the strain of a muscle, the pressure of
a headache, the rubbing of an arthritic joint, or the
achiness of the flu. Pain can be light or intense, it
can be momentary or chronic, and it can come from external
or internal sources.
Pain can be used to give a primary understanding of the
root problem of a health concern. While sometimes it
is necessary to deal with the pain directly it is also very
helpful to recognize the root cause of problems and deal
with them as well.
Oils, blends & products
recommended:
Oils & Blends:
Deep Blue, frankincense, helichrysum, lavender,
peppermint, vetiver, white fir, wintergreen
Essential oils based
products:
Also consider:
oregano
Suggested protocols:
Deep Blue (wintergreen, camphor, peppermint, blue tansy,
blue chamomile, helichrysum and osmanthus) is a blend of
essential oils to ease muscle, joint, connective tissue and
other pain. It may be applied topically with or
without a carrier oil.
AromaTouch (basil, cypress, grapefruit, lavender,
marjoram, peppermint) is a blend of essential oils that some
find more soothing than Deep Blue and more effective for
some types of pain.
The AromaTouch technique utilizes a number of oils in a
massage-like application that helps establish homeostasis or
balance in the body. For chronic pain some will find
this application, repeated often, a source of relief.
PastTense (basil, cilantro, frankincense, lavender,
marjoram, peppermint, Roman chamomile, rosemary,
wintergreen) is a blend specifically for headaches that many
have reported help with other types of pain. ie Joint and
skin.
Deep Blue and PastTense both come in roll-on applicators
for easier application.
Other combinations of the oils listed above have proven
effective for others. Many point out that each body
may react differently and experimenting to find the right
combination of oils for an individual will produce the best
outcome.

Carrie -
I have not been involved in with doTerra
oils for very long, but my experiences have
been mind blowing. I had been taking
anti-depressants and ADD medications for
over 25 years. Of course when you take
those drugs then there will be others added
so you can get to sleep at night, its a
viscous cycle.
I have tried to get off of them for 25
years, with no hope..until someone told me
about doTerra oils and my life changed
forever. Within 1 week I was off all
anti-depressants, and a few days later I
realized I didn't need the ADD mediation.
I'm still working on getting to sleep at
night by myself, but I think that will come
in time.
So I was telling My brother in-law this a
few weeks ago on the phone and after I hung
up he called me right back and asked if
these oils would help Dad, who has been
suffering from terrible pain in his hip and
shoulder for some time now. I said
yes, I was going to say something but I
really didn't think he would try them... So
I sent him some samples..so the following
week David (by brother in-law) was visiting
my father in-law again and he was in severe
pain and David said "Dad didn't Patti send
you some oils?" he said "yes, but they
are not going to work!" Well how do
you know if you don't try them..just go put
them on what will it hurt... so he does that
and comes back a few minutes later and David
asked him how the pain was and he
said...THERE IS NO PAIN... now he is
singing the doTerra song!! These oils
change peoples lives!
Debbie - A friend of mine called me last
week desperate for help. Her daughter was getting married in
a few days and there was no way she could get to the wedding
in the shape she was in. She had been in bed for weeks with
excruciating pain in her leg, and extreme exhaustion. She
does everything natural and had exhausted her resources.
She had been to holistic doctors with no success. I
was nervous she had a blood clot. She
wouldn’t go to a doctor to have it checked out. It is a
little scary to be the one working on a person when you know
their life literally could be in your hands. Blood
clots can break loose and when they do, they go to the heart
and people die instantly. I did the Aroma Touch Therapy on
her and prayed A LOT. (We added birch, cypress and
helichrysum.) She got out of bed the next day feeling quite
encouraged. We did the therapy 3 times and she was
able to go to the wedding and is now doing well.
Kathy - For a pain
blend - what could I blend with birch for back pain?
Jan - You might try this recipe: 2 drops
helichrysum, 10 drops birch, 8 drops cypress, 15 drops
basil, and 4 drops peppermint. I use this for pain and
stiffness.
Also the AromaTouch technique, over a period of time is
really good. It will heal the pain. The Deep Blue blend is
also good for immediate relief.
I am not a doctor, but I have used the oils for over 12
years and doTERRA is by far the most potent and beneficial
essential oils I have ever used.
Misty - My son had pain in his knee and
wrist so I made a blend of vetiver, cypress, basil,
lavender, and peppermint. He took it to school and most
everyone liked the smell until he put it on heavily. My
daughter said one teacher had to spray the room with air
freshener after he left. She was the TA in the class right
after. Another teacher claimed her headache was gone while
he was in her class, so she wanted to get a roll-on bottle
of the same blend!
Jenny - I was
wondering if anyone has any advice for me on what I can
recommend for severe foot and leg pain in a 60 yr old man
with type 2 diabetes. The doctor has told him that the leg
pain is from restless leg syndrome but he only get's limited
relief from the medication he was put on. I truly believe
that his pain is caused by the diabetes. This is someone who
is very special to me and all in my family and we truly need
all the help we can get to get him back to feeling better.
We have him using the Deep Blue for pain and grapefruit for
circulation, (to be used both topically and internally) And
are trying to get him on the Life Long Vitality
supplements..
Rob - You are smart to try to get him on
the Life Long Vitality supplements. That might help him
more than anything. The AromaTouch blend has been a blend
that people have found successful for RLS. I like your
blend of Deep Blue and grapefruit, It shows some logic and
understanding of what the oils do!! Other oils that may
help would be cypress and marjoram. Also, don't just apply
the oils and send him to bed. I'm sure you know that
massage is very healthy for diabetes. It invigorates the
extremities, gets the blood circulating and can block pain
receptors. So apply the oils with a good carrier and a good
massage to the legs and feet.
BK - I have found that different people
have differing success when dealing with restless leg. I
don't have it serious, in fact its never been diagnosed, but
I have the written symptoms at night. Just by accident one
night I used Balance and orange because they were near my
bedside, and there are no accidents, right? It gave me
great relief. I have a friend who swears by basil, and VCO.
And I have heard of AromaTouch as being helpful.
John - For the diabetes, try cypress on
the neck and cinnamon on the abdomen twice daily. Eat like
you wan to live and get on the Life Long Vitality
supplements.
Dana - I have also used the Balance at
night to help me sleep. There is a very calming scent
about it. It with the Deep Blue seems to really help me.
However I do not have diabetes.
Pat - Getting your friend on the Life
Long Vitality supplements would be essential with his
problems, also Aroma Touch is what he needs to use on his
legs. It has a great blend of oils and many people have used
it for Restless Leg Syndrome and circulation problems.
Christine – If it is RLS that is usually
a magnesium deficiency.
Pat – The Life Long Vitality supplements
have 100mg of magnesium in the VM blend.
