|ROSE Rosa damascena|
Calm & Stress Relief
Rose oil is one of the oldest and revered oils of aroma therapists. Bulgaria produces rosa damascena, the preferred essential oil, and this is where dōTERRa's sources their product. The oil is extracted from the petals of the Rose flower and requires a very large quantity of petals for a relatively small amount of oil. Hence the product is quite expensive. On the other hand, only a small amount of the oil is required for its typical uses.
Historically Rose oil is closely associated with feminine attributes. It has been used for those disorders associated with the reproductive tract including miscarriage, irregular menstrual cycle and even as a mild aphrodisiac. Topically it is also highly valued for dry or aging skin. Since it is antibiotic and antiviral it may also be used for those properties although there are other oils with similar properties that are much less expensive.
The other strength of Rose is its aromatic use. DōTerra describes it as an oil that helps to bring balance and harmony with its stimulating and uplifting properties. It is renowned for depression and other forms of emotional distress including post-natal depression.
Constituents: Citronellol 35-55%. Geriniol and nerol 16-22%. Phenyl ethanol 1.5-2.0%. Some note that trace constituents may also be very important for the unique properties of Rose oil.
